MOUNT VERNON — He became the first runner in nine years to represent his school at the State Cross Country Championship. He also was one of the key reasons — both on the course and off — that his team appeared at regionals.
That made Highland’s Logan Ebersole a natural choice for All-Area Boys Runner of the Year by the Mount Vernon News.
Ebersole finished 65th in the boys Division II race with a personal record time of 16:54.94. His final sprint to the finish allowed him to move ahead of three other runners.
At the D-II regional meet in Troy, Ebersole finished 15th with a time of 17:11.50. At districts, Ebersole led the Scots to a third-place finish.
Sarah Fowler, the only area runner to reach the podium at state, is the All-Area Girls Runner of the Year. The Fredericktown senior finished 14th in the Division III race in Hebron with a time of 19:00.38.
The All-Area Boys First Team includes Centerburg’s William Thatcher, the Mid-Buckeye Conference Runner of the Year who became the first Trojan boy to compete at state; Bailey Gannon, a Fredericktown freshman who also ran at Hebron; Gannon’s teammate, Colin Roddy, who finished 41st at regionals with a tme of 18:09.80; and Stephen Rowe, who was Mount Vernon’s lone competitor in the Division I regional race, finishing with a time of 17:22.28.
