Carl Richard Armstrong | Provided

Carl Richard Armstrong, 84, of Ashland, passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, in his home at Lutheran Village.

He was born on Oct. 8, 1939, in Knox County, the son of the late Dawson and Bernice (nee Harding) Armstrong.

Dick graduated from Danville High School, Class of 1957, where he played football on an undefeated team. He married the love of his life, the former Connie Sue Mizer, on March 19, 1961.

Dick retired after more than 34 years from General Motors in Mansfield. He farmed an 80-acre farm south of Hayesville with his wife for 10 years. They decided to sell the farm to free themselves up to take the family on many wonderful trips in a motorhome, including a 3-week long trip out west. He loved anything John Deere and had a sizeable toy farm implement collection.

Dick was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church, where he proudly served on the church council and the maintenance committee. He was a die-hard Cleveland Indians, Cavaliers, and Ohio State Buckeyes fan. He also served many years as a volunteer fireman at the Mifflin Fire Department.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years as of Tuesday, Mrs. Connie Armstrong of Ashland; two daughters, Lisa Armstrong (Nancy Winston) of Ashland and Cindy (Kim Ferguson) of Ashland; one son, Larry (JoAnne Moyer) Armstrong of Mayfield Heights; three grandchildren, Brandon, Leslie (Anthony Severino) and Melanie Armstrong; sister-in-Law Barbara (Neel) Awwiller and brother-in-Law Dan (Linda) Mizer. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Dick is preceded in death by his aunt and uncle who raised him, Dwight and Florence Lifer; Lisa's life partner, Gail A. Moroney; and his siblings, Dorothy (Jack) Welch, Dwight (Kathy) Armstrong, Robert Armstrong, Elaine (Kenneth) Scott, Kenneth (Ruth) Armstrong, Marlene (Dale) Pitts, Ronald Armstrong, David Keith (Karen) Armstrong and Gary (Mary) Armstrong.

Family and friends had the opportunity to call two hours prior to the service from 1 to 3 p.m. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at 3 p.m. in the Peace Lutheran Church with Reverend Karen J. Liddy. Interment will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Peace Lutheran Church, 1360 Smith Road, Ashland, Ohio 44805.
